Decorating for Fall: Vignettes from Inside the Home

Last week I shared some photos of fall decor on the outside of my house.  This week I wanted to show you some vignette photos from inside my home.  As I have said previously, I can't seem to help myself when it comes to seasonal and holiday decorating.  I think it's in my blood.  My mom and my grandmother both had the "bug" and taught and inspired me to carry on the tradition.

So every year, I bring up the plastic tub from the basement labeled "Halloween", even though I really meant for it to read "Fall Decorations", and get started.  I generally am a "harvest" decorator instead of a "Halloween" one.  I might add a few truly Halloween items to the mix about a week before the holiday but, for the most part my decorating is for the whole fall season.  That way I am all set until Thanksgiving, giving myself a little break until the heavy duty Christmas decorating starts!

This general display below has been on the buffet in the living room all summer.  I simply updated it for the fall by replacing summer silk stems with fall ones. I added an orange ceramic pumpkin and a few puffy bunny tails too.

I like this arrangement because it doesn't seem to compete with the print in the background and still creates a "fallish" scene.

I still have this old, antique cabinet in my living room, to my dismay.  As you can see I continue to decorate it for the seasons and have now added fall elements to it.  I kind of like how it turned out!

This "Cape Cod Cranberries" box is an ode to my birthplace of Cape Cod.  I liked the colors of white, red and gray together here.  The pepperberries were left over from the wedding I did in September.  I let them dry and then used them in the arrangement.  The dusty miller came from my garden.  It was dried, as well.  It's always fun to be able to use natural items from the garden to decorate your home.

Moving on to the front hall...I guess I really should have started here!  I like to brighten up the area since the paneling is stained a dark brown.  I think the gold, orange and rust color of the silk stems added to the white mirror does just that.

I finished up the look by adding a bronze ribbon.

This little vignette sits on top of the front hall table.  It greets my guests as they enter my home.  I very recently added the white mini pumpkins.  I think they made a big difference to the whole look.  It needed some brightness and contrast.

This is another old hutch that I own.  It really needs to be updated or replaced, something I would love to do soon.  However while that is still yet to come, I decided to make it look prettier and fill it with harvest "stuff".
To offset the dark background of the hutch I lined the back wall with white plates and trays.  Otherwise, I think my harvest accents would have gotten lost and not been noticed.

I have shared this wreath before.  I hope you don't mind me sharing it again.  I kind of love it still.  I love the printed leaf pages and the brown grosgrain ribbon!

I know the plates on this shelf in my kitchen do not scream "fall!".  They are more "wine country".  However, last year when I put them on these same shelves in August, thinking they looked like the end of a summer harvest from the garden, one of my friends said, "Ooooo how pretty!  So fallish!".  I took note and decided to use them this year in the months of fall.

I've made my way back to my living/dining room.  Here are some vignettes from the dining side of that room.

I liked this close-up photo of the dining table and shared it on Instagram.
This is the dining table as it is in the process of becoming the Thanksgiving tablescape. (I am hosting this year.)  I found some mismatched plates in my "stash" and decided to go that route this year.  I'll be tweaking it as time goes on.
I love the colors of this S-shaped wreath, if I do say so myself :).  It is something I made a while ago but has held up well and I always seem to find a place for it in my fall decorating.

Finally, an amber-colored pedestal vase filled with bunches of Indian corn. Very simple but very "fall".  It is actually one of my favorite vignettes!

I hope my vignettes have inspired you to create some of your own!
