About Christine
My name is Christine Mitchell, and I welcome you to my blog. I am the owner and creative voice of Mitchell & Company Designs and Events. Please let me share with you a little bit of the story that has brought me to this place in my life, a life enriched by my small business and this blog.
As a child, I found great happiness in helping my mother with the many parties and family gatherings she hosted in our home. She was very creative and always lavishly decorated for the holidays, a practice I have carried on in my own life. I have many fond memories of working with her in the kitchen, creating fancy entrees, hors d'oeuvres and desserts for her various occasions. Through her example of being "the hostess with the mostess" and her fashion sense, Mom planted in me the seeds of creativity, style and the delight of homemaking and decorating!
In adulthood, with my husband and three children in tow, I found personal joy and satisfaction in decorating my own home. Hosting Christmas parties and decorating for the holidays became something I was known for among my friends and family. I enjoyed decorating for other holidays and events throughout the year, as well. My interests later included gardening and floral design, which led me to taking floral design courses and later becoming a member of a wonderful and informative garden club. As I began to dream of starting my own business, putting into practice things I had learned and loved doing, I took advantage of classes at Middlesex Community College in Massachusetts and received a certificate in "Meeting & Events Management". My goal was to bring the practical and learned experiences of my life to my business and assist clients whenever they needed help with such things as planning, styling and/or executing the everyday or special events of their lives. “Celebrating Joy and Beauty” seemed to be the right tagline to describe what I was trying to do.
Shortly after starting this blog more than ten years ago, I did achieve my dream and eventually created a wedding and special events floral design business. I created floral arrangements and bouquets for weddings all over New England at all sorts of wonderful venues, including the Wychmere Beach Club, the Barn at Gibbet Hill, and the Boston Seaport Hotel. I met the most beautiful and lovely brides and their families and brought to life lavish floral designs that I never would have guessed I could have made. It was truly a dream come true.
A short time ago, my husband and I decided to move closer to our children and grandchildren. We moved from our home of thirty-five years in Groton, Massachusetts to a new location in Boxford, also in Massachusetts. Upon realizing we were making that move, I also decided to give up the wedding floral design part of my business for many reasons. It seemed to be the right time after eleven years. I am now working on new avenues in which to go with my small business. I will use this platform as a way to inform the public of upcoming events, such as pop-ups and workshops as I develop those ideas. Please stay tuned!
This blog has given me a wonderful opportunity to share ideas, thoughts, experiences and maybe even some of my learned skills with all of you. In doing so, my hope is that I inspire you to create joy and beauty in your own lives, and at the same time, I wish to brighten your day, as well!
Please join me on this journey!
