Using a Eucalyptus Garland as a Thanksgiving Centerpiece

A big trend I have been seeing in the wedding flower world this year has been the eucalyptus garland table runner.  Instead of having the traditional floral centerpiece or cluster of candles, what really seems to be in vogue right now is a garland running down the center of the table made of silver dollar and seeded eucalyptus.  The last wedding I did the bride discussed having this kind of table runner but, opted to DIY her own centerpieces instead.  However, a wedding I am doing in 2019 is talking about using eucalyptus garlands as centerpieces, as well.  So, I set out to make one and ended up using it in a Thanksgiving-inspired tablescape.

I used both kinds of eucalyptus, the seeded and silver dollar, when making the garland.  The silver dollar "euc" is used for the majority of the base of the garland with a few stems of the seeded mixed in.  I added the flowers, berries and pods after the garland was made.  I felt it needed a little sprucing up :).

Using items I found searching through my house, I started to create a tablescape that I thought complimented the eucalyptus garland while, at the same time, fitting into the theme of Thanksgiving or harvest, depending on how you looked at it.

I mixed votive candles with mismatched candlestick holders.  I used them mainly because that is what I had laying around the house but, also because I liked the different heights and different wood stains of the holders.  I think I should mention at this point that I had originally wanted to create the tablescape on my picnic table outside on the lawn. I wanted it to be more earthly and close to nature. However, the weather did not cooperate.  We have had, until today, rainy day after rainy day so, for picture-taking sake, I decided my shed/studio would be my place of choice for this tablescape.

Once I started adding the elements together I thought it would be best to keep things simple.  I wanted the garland table runner to be the focal point.

I used copper-colored chargers and placed my old china set on top.  Since the tablescape was Thanksgiving-inspired I used my fine silverware, as well :).

I added the orange pumpkin on the spare chairs because I thought Thanksgiving should have at least a little touch of orange~

In the end, my grandfather's old dining table did me a solid one more time.  I thought it looked lovely here and I always think of him and the many Sunday dinners I shared with my grandmother and grandfather sitting at this very same table as a child.

As you can see, it is easy to add a few flowers and berries, if you like.  Be sure to use flower tubes if you plan on setting the table ahead of time and want the flowers to look fresh longer.  I think you can find them at craft stores.

Copper mugs add to the harvest look, don't you think?

Votives are always a good idea~

Another touch of orange was added with the inclusion of the wreath.  I thought it added some warmth.

And so, I am ending the way I started...with the eucalyptus garland table runner.  I can see why so many brides are wanting this different kind of centerpiece.  There is so much you can do with it.  You can add lanterns mixed in with votive candles.  You could also mix in red Christmas berries and ornaments to use for a Christmas wedding or simply as a Christmastime centerpiece.  You can use the garland unadorned with only a few candles set in the center of the table if you'd like also.  It appears the sky's the limit when it comes to a eucalyptus table runner.  You are only limited by your own imagination!

Looking forward to the holidays!
