A Thanksgiving Tablescape in the Shed

Hey, Everyone!  November is well on its way.  Fall is speeding by!  I can't believe it.  Can you? Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share a tablescape I created in the shed for the holiday.




As some of you may know from my previous posts, my shed is furnished with this dining room table from my grandparents home.  I enjoyed many, many meals at this table as a kid and have wonderful memories of spending time with my lovely and loving grandparents.  So, whenever I can put this old table to great use it makes me extremely happy.

This year I thought I would make a centerpiece without using flowers.  I love flowers, of course, but they do have a decided shelf life, usually not lasting much longer than a week.  Pumpkins and gourds are so long lasting that you can make a centerpiece in early November and have it last all the way to Thanksgiving.  Not a bad trade-off when the results are so pretty.

I used white and blue pumpkins, as well as, a blue Hubbard squash and some baby boo
   pumpkins as the base for the centerpiece.  




I, then, added some pine cones from my yard.  Pine cones are extremely plentiful this year.  Does that mean we are going to have a long, hard winter?  I'm sure there is some old wives tale out there saying so.  I certainly hope not!  The abundance it great for creating fun decorations, regardless :).

I finished the arrangement with some seeded eucalyptus~~one of my very favorite floral greens.  Seeded eucalyptus looks wonderful almost anywhere you put it this time of year, in my opinion.


Oh, I forgot to mention that the whole centerpiece started with a very large galvanized round tray that I  enthusiastically purchased from Pottery Barn a few months ago.

As you can see many of the elements of the tablescape are rustic in nature.  The shed, after all, is very rustic all on its own so, I used things such as burlap, wooden bowls and a painted grapevine wreath to go along with the style of the shed.


However, I used  some elegant elements, as well.  And since it is Thanksgiving I pulled out my fine silver {plate, if you must know. :)}  I know silver can be a pain to hand wash and all but, you only live once.  Why not make special occasions...special?  I love pulling the silver box out of the cabinet during holidays and decorating my table with my fancy silverware.  It's a little thing that makes me happy~




I didn't use my fine china this time around because I liked the rustic look of the multi layers of miscellaneous plates and chargers.

I also added in some crystal goblets and some real silver items such as the butter dish and creamer.  I'm sure my grandmother would have thought it was awful to mix galvanized metal (Did they even have galvanized metal back then?) and silver but, that is the beauty of today.  Anything goes and I think it's great!

As you can see, I used A LOT of baby boo pumpkins.  I just love those little guys.  I used my share of seeded euc also.  You already know how I feel about that :).  I like the texture it adds to this table.
 

I like using walnuts to decorate the table this time of year, too.  Walnuts have a fun and unique shape and the color is perfect for Thanksgiving.  I liked the neutral look of the walnuts and baby boos together.  All easy things you can get a the grocery store.


I guess this old table will be put to some good use this year, which makes my heart happy~
