Hey there! Yes, Christmas is over and here I am posting a Christmas dining room scene after the fact. That is the way it seems to go with me. I always seem to have more to say about Christmas a few days after the holiday and this year seems to be no exception :).
I have lots of photos today of my dining room. I am pretty sure you do not want me to comment on all of them, but I will interject some commentary in between the many photos just to let you know what I was thinking while decorating this room for Christmas.
First of all, you should know I recreated the tablescape for the dining table after Christmas for this post. My home is too crazy and chaotic on Christmas Day to do anything other than play hostess and get the food on the table. This tablescape is very similar to what took place on Christmas but, with two less place settings.
Another thing I should mention is that taking these photos made me realize that I have GOT to redecorate this room. No matter how many times people OOO and AHH when they come into the house and into this room, it really is not my taste. I feel it is very dated, and I need to do something about it. So, if you are seeing this wallpaper again next year, it will be somewhat of a defeat for me. (Are you listening, hubby Tom?! Hahaha!)
So here we go with the slideshow~
This is the view of the dining room table from a few steps up on the stairway.
Here is the view to the stairs from the dining room fireplace.
Anyway, with all of that said about wanting to redecorate, the dining room was a place I felt I had done a good job of decorating even if the photos do not totally attest to that. I find that happens sometimes. I cannot capture the true essence of a room with my limited photography skills :/.
As is always my rule, I used mostly the items I had on hand. I didn't use fresh flowers this year. I did, however, reuse the lighted evergreen table runner ↑ and many of the same enhancements I had used last year. My daughter, Amanda, loved the table and didn't seem to remember the setting was very close to how it was last year :).
However, here are some of the new additions this year:
The napkin rings are new. They came in a set of twelve with six different designs. Amanda told me about them. She had bought a set, also, and they came from Amazon.
The battery-powered votives also came from Amazon, I believe. I loved them! They give off great light and are safe around children.
Each place setting had layers of chargers and a plate. The rope chargers were a gift last year from my daughter-in-law, Jessica. I had the copper ones and only used them because I had forgotten that my old gold chargers were chipping, and I had thrown them out. I discovered this a day or two before Christmas. I didn't have time to go searching for new ones so, I made these work. Honestly, I like the look of the copper and rope chargers next to each other and I thought they looked good on my table. The plates brought in the theme of Christmas.
Here are a couple of the place settings.
You can see the napkin rings came in different designs.
You can also see in the photo above that I used gold and silver silverware. On Christmas Day I only used the silver. I forgot I had a serving of four in the gold and decided to use it in this recreated tablescape.
The Nativity was in the dining room this year. I liked it there because it was in a place where more people could see it. I had placed it in my sitting room last year and that room often gets overlooked, although my son and his wife enjoyed sitting in there on Christmas Day. That brought joy to my heart after I had so lovingly decorated it :).
That same son (We only have one.) made fun of the reindeer in the center of the table. I am not really sure why.
I have owned it for years and years and I like it!
One of the areas of the room that I really liked was the mantle. I had decorated it similarly last year, but I also added in the a few new things this year.
Like this plaque...
And these candles~
I moved an old wallhanging to the dining room this year, as well.
It is one of my favorite decorations. I don't love the wallpaper as the background but, it
worked for this season.
Another decoration I always seem to bring out is this angel that I made so many years ago that I can't remember. I still love her, though.
