Glimpses of My Trip to Sea Island, Georgia

Welcome, all.  It started last April when my son and his family returned from their first trip to Sea Island, Georgia.  The trip was a business trip but our son brought his family along because he had heard that the resort was quite something and he wanted to share it with them.  It turned out to be more than quite something and when the same conference decided to meet again this April at Sea Island the whole family was determined to return.  This time, however, they invited my husband and me to join them!  So, we made our plane reservations and started to look forward to the trip.  Unfortunately for us, the weather turned out to be not as wonderful as the resort but, we made it work anyway.

Upon arriving at The Cloister at Sea Island you immediately step into the three story, Spanish villa inspired, massive lobby.  With the weather often in the 55 to 60 degree area with showers or full out rain, this room became a favorite of ours and many of the other guests.  There were actually many, many common and lovely areas around the hotel in which to curl up with a good book, which was really nice.

The architecture, woodwork and elegant fixtures were stunning throughout the resort but especially  here in the lobby.

I took a picture of this room not realizing it was the most elegant and highly rated restaurant of the hotel.  It was closed the day we checked in and it was not on our itinerary to have a meal here during our stay but, the room was absolutely gorgeous to see!

This was a secluded side room of the restaurant.  I assumed it was for special parties of diners.  I loved the chandeliers throughout the hotel.  Isn't this one beautiful?!

Even though it was around 55 degrees and cloudy when we arrived at the hotel our son and his family gave us an outdoor tour of the resort.  We checked out the beach club area with its 4-5 pools, shops and restaurants.  We walked the grounds and then they brought us to an area with eight national flags flying.  The G-8 Summit had been held here in 2004 hosted by George W. Bush.

It was exciting staying at a place where such history had taken place~

Then word came that our room was ready for check in.  I will try not to bore you with this but, the room was so lovely that we felt very privileged having the opportunity to stay there!  As we entered the room there was this long and elegant hallway.

With its coffee station and mini bar~

We passed a French door overlooking a tiny courtyard to go to the next hallway leading to the room.

The next hallway contained two large closets, a large mirror for primping and extra drawers for storage.  This area would be wonderful at home let alone for our mini vacation!

The biggest surprise was the huge bathroom with a separate large shower, double sinks and...

...a separate tub.  Everything was elegant.

Everything you could need was at your fingertips.

For some reason I do not have many good pictures of the room itself but it did have this unusual cornice over the bed :).

And the balcony was amazing!  Too bad the weather never allowed us to use it ;/

Even with the bad weather we managed to have fun with the grandkids.  Here are two of them as we jumped on a shuttle bus to go tour another area of the resort.  There is a separate hotel a few miles away that caters to golfers.  We toured the hotel and gift shops and went back to our hotel for lunch.  Whenever we could we walked around, took the kids to the spa pool which allowed them to swim for two hours a day.  That was our saving grace!  My husband and I could stay there the whole day if we wanted to.  It was great...and warm!

Here are some of the grounds as we walked back to our room which was in an another grouping of rooms off of the main lobby.

We passed this little chapel everyday.  I would have loved doing the flowers for a wedding here!

I believe weddings take place in this courtyard, as well.  My grandson, Tommy, watched one last year from the balcony of his room up above :).

This was one of the three private adult pools we could have used had the weather cooperated.  The weather doesn't look too bad here but, take my word for it...it was cold!

Even with the bad weather we had a great time.  The resort is just so special and accommodating you can't help but have a great time.  Plus the vacation gave us wonderful times with our wonderful grandchildren.  This was our last night at the resort.  My son and his wife were at a business dinner so it was just the kids and us going out for dinner.  Here are the grandkids and me (Tom was taking the picture) as we waited for our desserts sitting in the lounge (not drinking lounge) of the casual river view restaurant of the hotel.  (I'm sorry.  I can't remember the name of it.)  We watched our Boston Celtics on the big screen TV and munched away as we ate the two desserts we all shared.  It was a very fun night, to say the least.

After dessert, we went back to our room and were greeted as we had every other night with a bottle of water, a chocolate and a sweet note.  Such a nice touch~

The next day was perfect weather...of course!  We were leaving!  We did, however, get to spend a few hours by the pool before we had to head out to the airport to come home, which was awesome.  The pools were great and the service terrific!  I think we will have to return again, perhaps later in the year to experience all that the resort has to offer...hopefully, in good weather.

Oh, by the way, my husband and I had to change our flight to an earlier flight because word came down from his boss that he would need to be on a flight at 7:00 am the next morning for his own business trip.  He was going to Wichita, Kansas.  Poor guy!  Good thing we were able to enjoy our mini vacation on Sea Island and the memories we have to share.

~Now it is back to the real world~
